Our May 18th Luncheon was a great success, thanks to wonderful sponsors, dedicated table captains and generous supporters. So far, the event has raised more than $110,000 to help families in Washington connect with health, hope and happiness. It was an opportunity to highlight WithinReach’s ever expanding impact. Watch the luncheon video and see pictures of the event on our new YouTube channel.
The luncheon is also the time when we present our annual awards, recognizing key leaders in our community. The Cynthia F. Leadership Award was presented to Dr. Kyle Yasuda, Medical Director of the Pediatric Clinics at Harborview Medical Center. Dr. Yasuda, a founding member of the Cynthia Circle, is a leading advocate for children in our state and nationally. As Dr. Yasuda was unable to attend the luncheon, his daughter Mirei accepted the award on his behalf.
We were also proud to name Group Health Cooperative as recipient of our Annual Partnership Award. Group Health has been a leader in efforts to get children in our community connected to healthcare. As a partner of WithinReach, Group Health has offered support and collaboration on many projects, including the development of ParentHelp123.org and the IACW Social Marketing Campaign addressing vaccine hesitancy concerns.
Luncheon Host, Maxine Hayes, MD, Washington State Health Officer, shared her view on the challenges of today’s tough economy and how WithinReach helps, by combining strong partnerships with innovative services like ParentHelp123.org.
Luncheon guests saw a moving presentation about one of WithinReach’s newest programs, Bridge to Basics. A collaborative effort with United Way of King County and AmeriCorps, Bridge to Basics enlists volunteers who meet with families at food banks, community centers, and libraries, walking them through the process of learning about and applying for healthcare, food and utility assistance programs. This program is just one example of the many ways in which WithinReach is connecting families in our state to essential resources for health and success.
