Breastfeeding Coalition of Washington

The Breastfeeding Coalition of Washington (BCW) is a statewide coalition comprised of ~ 20 local coalitions and member organizations working together to promote, protect and support breastfeeding as a vital part of the health and development of children and families. Member coalitions and the statewide Steering Committee are comprised of health professionals, parents and representatives from other allied organizations.

Our Goals and Activities

The goals of the Breastfeeding Coalition of Washington are to coordinate statewide efforts to:

  • Protect and promote a public environment supportive and accepting of breastfeeding so that breastfeeding is the cultural norm in Washington State
  • Increase the incidence, duration and exclusivity of breastfeeding in all communities
  • Affect policies in workplaces, hospitals, healthcare, educational institutions and childcare facilities to support breastfeeding families
  • Provide up-to-date referral and educational materials to healthcare professionals organizations and the community at large about breastfeeding
  • Plan and promote annual World Breastfeeding Week Activities

The BCW aims to conduct all activities and advocacy in a way that is culturally relevant and sensitive and welcomes interested individuals and organizations to partner in promoting breastfeeding in your community or organization. BCW meetings are open to all interested parties and local coalitions provide opportunities to work on local outreach activities and projects.

The BCW also offers a free newsletter, Breastfeeding Matters, providing information and updates on local and national breastfeeding research, legislation and activities.
