Congrats to Our Cynthia F. Shurtleff Award Winner!

WithinReach honors an individual each year who has shown extraordinary leadership, innovation and dedication to the health and wellbeing of women, children and families in our state with the Cynthia F. Shurtleff Leadership Award. Cynthia Shurtleff is known as the “mother” or founder of WithinReach – and has been a source of wisdom, spirit and support for WithinReach since the beginning.

We are thrilled to present the 2019 Cynthia F. Shurtleff Leadership Award to Victoria Gardner, EdD, Assistant Dean for Equity, Diversity & Inclusion in the School of Public Health at the University of Washington. Dr. Gardner is an educator and community organizer with 27 years of experience in higher education. She led the Office of Multicultural Affairs in the UW School of Medicine using an anti-racist framework and held an adjunct appointment in the Department of Family Medicine, where she designed and taught courses on health disparities, and developed pathways to aid underserved communities.

Dr. Gardner has worked closely with the WithinReach staff and board to move our equity understanding and journey forward over the last several years. She is a talented educator and tireless advocate for health equity, and is now building a pipeline of equity-trained public health professionals.

Congratulations, and thank you, Dr. Victoria Gardner!
