Celebrating Our First Corporate Partnership Event: Microsoft and WithinReach Join Forces to Support Families in Need

We recently had the honor of partnering with Microsoft for our very first corporate collaboration event—an exciting milestone in WithinReach’s journey to support families across Washington. With the help of a dedicated group of Microsoft employees, we assembled 50 essential baby bags for parenting people who are in critical need of extra support. This partnership not only brought together much-needed resources but also strengthened our mission of building connections between families and the support systems they rely on.

Why Corporate Partnerships Matter
As a nonprofit, partnerships like these are vital to expanding our reach and deepening our impact. Microsoft’s generosity has shown us what’s possible when a corporation and a community-focused organization come together for a common goal: supporting families in need. This milestone event, while not the first of its kind, marks a new chapter for WithinReach in corporate partnerships, setting the stage for future collaborations that will help us scale efforts and reach even more families who face barriers to accessing essential resources.

The Packing Event Experience
The event itself was filled with energy and purpose. Microsoft employees enthusiastically packed each baby bag with care and intention, knowing that their work would make a real difference in the lives of local families. The bags were filled with essential items such as diapers, baby books, hygiene products, and other critical supplies designed to help both babies and their parenting people thrive. Diapers, the most important component, are a lifeline for families—especially considering that families with newborns spend more than $1,000 on diapers in the first year alone.

As one participant shared: “It was incredibly meaningful to know that each bag could provide comfort and relief to a family in need. It made our day of volunteering feel impactful.”

Supporting Families During the Postpartum Period
The postpartum phase is a critical time for both the birthing person and baby, and the need for support during this period extends beyond just physical supplies. Emotional well-being and mental health are just as important. Many birthing people, particularly those experiencing substance use disorder or facing financial challenges, are at an increased risk for postpartum depression and anxiety. Providing families with tangible resources like diapers and baby books not only eases the financial burden but also helps reduce the stress that can impact mental health. These bags offer more than immediate relief—they help create a sense of security and connection, both of which are essential for mental and emotional wellness during the postpartum period.

Meeting Immediate Needs and Providing Tailored Support
These baby bags, distributed through our partner organizations in Skagit and Snohomish counties, offer more than practical support—they represent hope and connection for families facing various challenges. Through our partnerships, we ensure that these bags reach the families who need them most, whether they are navigating substance use disorder through our Plan of Safe Care program or other difficulties.

As Xiomara De La Rosa, the Family Resource Center and Distribution Manager at the Children’s Museum of Skagit County, shared, “These bags are a reminder that families are not alone and that their community is here to support them.”

This collaborative effort underscores the importance of meeting families where they are and providing resources that help them feel secure, connected, and hopeful.

A Gift of Hope and Community
At WithinReach, we understand that parenting can present a wide range of challenges, whether families are experiencing substance use disorder, financial hardships, housing instability, or simply adjusting to the demands of caring for a newborn. These moments of vulnerability are when families need the most support. We are committed to offering resources that foster resilience, strength, and connection for all families, regardless of their specific circumstances. These baby bags are a symbol of that commitment—a gift of hope, connection, and community support that helps families feel seen and supported as they navigate the complexities of parenthood.

Looking Ahead
This partnership with Microsoft is just the beginning of what we hope will be many more opportunities to collaborate with corporate partners who share our commitment to supporting families.

As the event co-sponsor, Marc Walters, Corporate Vice President DGC, shared: “At Microsoft, we believe in the power of community and in supporting families when they need it most. Working with WithinReach to create these baby bags has been an inspiring experience, and we look forward to continuing our partnership to help more families across Washington.”

Walters’ words remind us of the importance of bringing together corporate and community resources to create a lasting impact. By joining forces, we can continue to provide critical support to parenting people, advocate for families in need, and expand the reach of our programs across Washington.

We’re incredibly grateful to Microsoft for this partnership and for the opportunity to work together to ensure that every family has access to the support they need to thrive.
