Senator Claire Wilson

Washington State Senate | Legislative District 30

Sen. Claire Wilson has represented the people of 30th District since 2018. In her time as Senator, Claire has been a strong proponent of reform in the juvenile justice, child welfare and corrections systems. She is motivated to disrupt the institutions that keep people where they are instead of providing them the tools and resources they need for successful reentry. Claire is proud to have sponsored legislation ending the use of solitary confinement for youth, as well as a bill providing post-secondary education opportunities in the Department of Corrections. Claire has been the force behind major education, early learning,  and justice reform legislation.  She sponsored Senate Bill 5395, which requires all Washington public schools to provide comprehensive sexual education. She also championed the landmark Fair Start for Kids Act, which invested $1.1 billion to make childcare and early learning more affordable for Washington families. Before her time in the legislature, Claire taught 11-21 pregnant and parenting teens and was Program Director for the Women, Infants and Children (WIC) Supplemental Food and Nutrition Education Program in a rural community in Montana.  She currently Chairs the Senate Human Services Committee and Vice-Chairs the Senate K-12 Education Committee.

Molly Firth

MCG Consulting

Molly Firth is the owner of MCG Consulting, a health policy consulting firm in Seattle, and provides health policy research, legislative advocacy and strategy services to clients. She is a clinical instructor, teaching health policy development and advocacy at the University of Washington’s School of Public Health (Department of Health Systems and Population Health) and advising Health Systems and Policy concentration graduate students. Molly is also a maternal health advocate, sharing her personal story of severe maternal morbidity (2016), serving on the state’s Maternal Mortality Review Panel (2020-current), and advocating for improvements to reduce maternal mortality and morbidity

Amber Ulvenes

Lobbyist, Ulvenes Consulting

Amber Ulvenes is a long-time professional advocate, forming government affairs firm Ulvenes Consulting in 2007. Prior to consulting, Amber worked for the WA State House of Representatives as a policy staffer. She has a BS in biology from the University of Washington, and an MA in Environmental Studies from the Evergreen State College. As a lobbyist, Amber has worked chiefly in health care, from Health Reform to Health Care Transformation, though her heart is really in maternal and child health. Clients count on Amber and her team for strategic advice, political analysis, issue review, and steady representation to government officials. When not working, Amber has her nose in a book or her hands in the dirt. She lives near the Capitol in a 112-year old home with her husband, three teenagers and a dog.

Beth Tinker

Beth is a Clinical Nurse Consultant/Nurse Advisor at the Washington State Health Care Authority (WA’s state Medicaid agency). Her nursing experience is in Pediatrics, Obstetrics, Public Health, home visiting, and management. Beth completed her PhD in Nursing Science at the University of Washington in 2019, where she was awarded the Robert Wood Johnson Scholar Award for doctoral studies. Her research and clinical interests include health disparities, infant mental health, protective factors for children and families living with complex adversity, breastfeeding, early intervention, home visiting and public health nursingAt the Health Care Authority, she focuses on Medicaid clinical programs and policies across the reproductive health continuum and care for children and families, with a focus on perinatal and infant mental health.

Carrie Glover is a policy consultant who works on state legislative efforts. Carrie has worked in public policy development and advocacy since 2006. Her focus is on Washington State legislative and administrative policies relating to health access, behavioral health, prevention, child development, and other social determinants of health such as homelessness and food security. Carrie’s background includes working as a grassroots organizer for a national chronic disease organization and also serving as a policy specialist at both the state and federal levels. Carrie has a master’s degree in Comparative Politics and Public Policy from Western Washington University. In her free time she enjoys traveling and spending time in the outdoors with her dog.

Camille has a degree in Health Psychology with a focus in Public Health from Bastyr University and has been working within the social service field for 6+ years. Camille and her team assist pregnant and postpartum clients experiencing substance use disorder through the statewide community-based pathway of Plan of Safe Care and the King County Substance Use Disorder Pregnancy Pilot. Holding expertise in perinatal substance use disorder resources and trainings, providing Help Me Grow wraparound services that are custom tailored to clients’ and their household’s needs as well as offering warm handoffs in partnership with organizations throughout the state is at the core of the Mental & Behavioral Health Team.

Kate Agyei Yeboah

Perinatal Partnership Manager at WithinReach

Kate Agyei Yeboah (she/her) is a passionate advocate for equitable maternal and child health systems. She holds a Master’s of Public Health from the University of Washington, where she completed and published her thesis on community-based midwifery care during Covid-19. She has held professional positions in various sectors spanning higher education, research, and state government. Kate is also a certified birth doula and draws on her previous work with birthing and postpartum families to inform her approach to her current role as the Manager of Perinatal Partnerships at WithinReach. She believes that all families should have access to comprehensive, culturally competent care and services. Kate is deeply appreciative to those who strive to be a part of the collective solution(s) and collaboratively build a better future for generations to come. In her free time, Kate loves hosting dinner parties, attending local theatre productions, traveling, and spending time with her large family.

They view doula work as community work, and are dedicated to dismantling the stigmas associated with perinatal drug use. Elizabeth Moore Simpson is a mother of two and also identifies as a bereaved parent. She has worked with new families for over ten years before coming to PS-WA.  She has dedicated her career to the work of ending health and economic disparities for communities furthest away from opportunity. Through an infant-early childhood mental and maternal health lens Elizabeth has practiced as a full-spectrum doula, restorative justice circle keeper, child and family therapist, and community organizer for racial and economic justice.

Stephanie Valerdi

Parent Resilience Specialist, Perinatal Support Washington  

Stephanie Valerdi (she/they) is a queer Latinx single parent of a child with special needs. Stephanie supports Latinx, BIPOC, and QPOC families in King County. Stephanie has been supporting families for the last 9 years with a foundation in community programs, and early childhood education. 

Stephanie has personal experience navigating the mental health systems as an immigrant, and is passionate about using their skills to help families access support in a culturally informed way empowering parents in their own self advocacy journey. Stephanie is passionate about connecting Latinx parents and building a community proud of our culture, and resilience. 

Stephanie is supportive in listening and using their lived experience to help bridge the stigma of talking about mental health within the Latinx community. Stephanie’s personal experience with Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders (PMADs), and trauma, has empowered them in their career to provide compassionate and informed care to the families they work with.

Anne Stone MA, MPA, CDE

Director, Washington State Fatherhood Council, DSHS Economic Services Administration 

Anne Stone is the Washington Fatherhood Council Director and Early Childhood Innovation Director at the Washington State Department of Social and Health Services, Economic Services Administration. A central part of that role is as a founder and director of the Washington State Fatherhood Council which works to amplify the voices of fathers to be the fathers they aspire to be for their children, families, and communities. This cross-cutting state-level coalition made up of state and nonprofit providers, academics and advocates, and most importantly fathers with lived experience, promotes fatherhood inclusion, access and belonging to maximize children’s potential. 

Anne has 30-plus years of experience in the child and family services field as an innovator and change agent in youth and family crisis, child healthcare transformation, early childhood systems, poverty reduction, and fatherhood inclusion, as a funder, non-profit executive director, community consultant, crisis counselor, and state agency innovator. 

 

Jose Romo Ramirez

WIC Program Monitor/Health Consultant, Washington State Department of Health

 Jose is a multi-skilled professional with more than 50,000 interactions with young parents. He currently works with the Washington Department of Health Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) Program. He started his WIC journey as an immigrant WIC participant, receiving services at the age of 6-months-old.  He started his professional career within WIC as a clinic manager in South Los Angeles and most recently worked serving communities in the Seattle area. In addition to WIC services, Jose is a class instructor for Conscious Fathering program for Parent Trust for Washington Children. Jose is most excited about energizing parents and caregivers to grow with their child and share the many benefits that come from creating a consistent, predictable, and reliable team.

Steven Thibert is a father of a 3-year-old son for whom he shares joint custody. He has a powerful story of overcoming adversity in the family court system where he had the odds stacked against him. He is a passionate voice in Parent Leadership that includes the Nurture Connection FNC, Nurture Connection Steering Committee, Washington Fatherhood Council, WA PN3 Coalition, and more.
